Syracuse Football Scores Stunning Upset For The Ages: Watch Video Highlights
For the first time in more than 30 years, the Syracuse Football team has defeated a top 2 opponent, rocking the second ranked & defending National Champion Clemson Tigers, 27-24 on Friday Night.
It all went down at Syracuse's home field, The Carrier Dome, where the Orange pulled off the same feat in 1984, taking down the #1 Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Here in 2017, Head Coach Dino Babers leads this Orange squad through his second season at the helm, promising to return this once proud program to prominence after a decade long disappointment.
Troubled Tigers
This is Clemson's first loss of the season, & it places them in serious jeopardy of not making the College Football Playoffs for the third time in consecutive seasons.
Adding insult to injury, Clemson's starting quarterback, Kelly Bryant, was slammed hard to the turf & suffered a game ending concussion.
Most Valuable Stunt Man
Most experts agree the MVP of this game was Syracuse Jr. quarterback Eric Dungey, who finished the game with 20-32 passing for 278 yards and three touchdowns.
Additionally, he made spectacular plays in clutch situations to keep his team on top of their opponent.
In fact, Clemson never had a lead in the game at any time, & despite a few singular dramatic plays to keep the game interesting, Syracuse was in control from start to finish.
Dungey took his brash swagger off the field as well, when he spoke up in the post game presser, chiding,
Quick show of hands. Who thought we were going to win tonight?
That's exactly what we've been saying. It's just us.
Nobody believes in us except us.
Noteworthy Milestone
Yahoo Sports reports, this unbelievable Syracuse victory is just the third time the Orange have beaten the defending national champions.
The loss will certainly drop Clemson out of the top five in the AP poll on Sunday. But the Tigers survived a November loss to Pitt a year ago and still made the College Football Playoff.
Clemson’s playoff hopes might have taken a slight hit but are otherwise still largely intact, especially if Bryant isn’t seriously injured.
The Tigers are off in Week 8 before playing Georgia Tech in Week 9.
